dailyplanit Daily PlanIt Emotions-"I" Messages

A method for communicating your feelings without creating defensiveness in others.
Five elements that can be included:
    1. Observations-state the facts, describe the situation
    2. Feelings-describe your own feelings
    3. Thoughts-about the effects of the situation
    4. Wants-ask clearly for what you want
    5. Intentions-tell what you plan to do

Example: "I feel unimportant when staff meeting notes are not routed to me. I was unaware of some vital information that was covered in the last meeting. I would like to be included in the routing after this."

Not an "I" message, even though it starts with an "I": "I think you deliberately set out to make me look bad by keeping information from me. I feel you need to treat me better."
