An enhanced environment for work or learning:

There are four types of brain waves. Alpha waves reflect a calm, relaxed, yet alert mind, and are the most conducive to learning. Music that enhances the learning environment include many classical selections. Color and light are additonal factors that can effect learning. Visual surroundings can offer inspiration or distraction, depending on the nature of tasks undertaken. Blue is generally considered a relaxing color, while red may be energizing. Even smells can contribute, with a lemon scent creating alertness, while vanilla or spiced apple reduce stress symptoms. Create a comfortable, well-lighted and well-supplied area for learning without distractions. Choose the time of day that you have determined is your peak for energy and efficiency to learn.

Learning styles vary among individuals:
Visual: about 50% of students learn best by seeing, reading, and recalling what they have seen.
Audio: another 40% of students learn best by hearing and do well in lecture classes. They should try studying aloud and using tape recorders to best use their strengths.
Action: the other 10% are action oriented people who learn best by doing, working with their hands, and through experience.

Observation
  •     The first thing taught in First Aid courses is to observe the situation for a clear understanding of what has happened and what the dangers are.
  •     In the television show MacGyver, the first step in solving the problem was to observe what resources were available.
  •     The ability of a witness to describe a suspect in a crime is based on what was observed. And being aware of what is happening around you is a good safety tip.
  •     Observation of ourselves can lead to an awareness of our feelings, as well as an understanding of what is important to us, one of the first steps in goal-setting.
  •     Observation of others can help us understand what they are feeling, the important skill of empathy.
  •     Observing examples of how work has been done in the past can give clues to proper procedures.
